How Many Telegram Boosts Do You Need?

The amount you need depends on subscribers and target level. Here is how to calculate it across four factors without buying too little or too much.

Calculation flow from subscriber count to the boosts needed for a target level
The boosts you need come from the channel coefficient and your target level.

Short answer: The number depends on your channel's subscriber count and target level. Divide subscribers by 250, add 1 to the whole number for the channel coefficient, then multiply by the target level to find the threshold. If your channel already holds active boosts, you only need the gap between the threshold and that current count.

When you decide to raise a channel level, the first question is usually the same: how many Telegram boosts do you need? The answer is not only about your subscriber count. Your target level, the features you want to use, how long the boosts stay active and your growth plan all belong in the calculation. Too few boosts produce spend that never reaches the feature; too many tie up budget you could have used elsewhere.

The right amount is set against the level progress the app shows for your channel today. That is why no single “ideal boost count for every channel” exists. The healthy approach is to see where the channel stands now, then define the level you want and its role in your objective.

How many boosts you need: start with the goal

Boosts are not a visibility guarantee. They do not promise more subscribers, an automatic rise in search results or a direct lift in sales. What they do is raise the channel level and open the publishing, appearance and community options Telegram attaches to each step.

Every level has its own threshold; an amount below it unlocks nothing.

That distinction matters for professional channels. A news channel may want to present its content with a stronger brand language. An education community may want to categorise its material more clearly. An ecommerce channel may want visitors to see a tidier, more trustworthy structure in the first few seconds. In every scenario the decision is not the boost count itself but the level it takes you to.

Answer three questions first: what is your current level, which feature will you use at which level, and can you support that feature with regular content? If the last answer is unclear, moving up in stages is safer than chasing the highest level.

Do the maths in three steps

Telegram sets the level threshold from your subscriber count. The formula is:

  • Step 1: Divide the subscriber count by 250 and drop the remainder.
  • Step 2: Add 1 to that whole number. This is the channel coefficient.
  • Step 3: For levels 1–8 use coefficient × level ÷ 2 rounded up, for level 9 coefficient × 7, and for level 10 and above coefficient × level.

Example: on a channel with 5,000 subscribers the coefficient is 21. Level 5 therefore needs 21 × 5 ÷ 2 = 53 boosts. If the same channel targets level 10, it needs 210. On a 1,000-subscriber channel, level 5 takes just 13 boosts. The same level maps to completely different amounts depending on channel size.

If you would rather skip the arithmetic, enter your subscriber count and target level on the boost calculator page. For the full table per level, see the channel levels article.

Four factors that decide your boost need

What drives the amount is more than the missing boost figure on screen. To build the plan properly, weigh these four factors together:

  • Current and target level: The higher the level, the more boosts it takes. Jumping straight to a high level does not cost the same budget or time as moving up one step.
  • Purpose of use: Custom reactions, a stronger brand appearance, content structure and a sense of community all imply different needs. Chasing a level for features you will not use is wasteful.
  • Continuity of boosts: Boosts are not permanent. Renewal at the end of a term, reassignment or cancellation all affect your level status.
  • The channel's natural growth: A community with loyal Premium followers can collect organic boosts over time. On a new or quiet channel, treating that contribution as the core plan is risky.

An investment channel with 20,000 subscribers but low engagement and an education community of 1,500 members with daily conversation approach the same goal differently. The first may want to re-engage a passive audience with stronger visual identity and content formats. The second can build a more balanced level plan on the back of active member loyalty.

Why the current in-app number is the reference

Telegram can update level requirements, the Premium system and the features it offers channels. Setting a purchase amount from an old table you found online is therefore unreliable. The most dependable reference is the current level, progress bar and remaining boosts shown in the Boosts tab under Channel Info statistics.

While you are there, do not stop at “how many boosts are missing?”. Look at what unlocks when you reach the target. If those options do not serve your design, publishing frequency or community management, staying one level lower can be the better operational decision. We compared what each level unlocks in boost level benefits.

The common mistake here is turning the number into the goal. The number is a tool. The real goal is what a visitor sees on arrival, how your content is distinguished and how easily admins can run the channel.

A practical method for finding the amount

Start by noting your current level and the boosts required for the next target from the statistics screen. Then write, in one sentence, the feature you will use at the target level. Something concrete such as “we will use more distinctive reactions in our brand colours” or “we will announce content series through stories” is enough.

Next decide the duration. Are you raising the level only for a short campaign, launch or community event? Or do you want to hold the channel's appearance at a certain standard long term? Short-term plans need clarity about when delivery starts and how long boosts stay active. Long-term plans should weigh renewal, level retention and fit with other growth work. We covered quantity and duration decisions on the ordering side in the boost order guide.

Finally, count organic boosts cautiously. If Premium members already support you, part of the remaining gap may be covered by the community over time. We worked out how many boost slots one subscription grants in Premium boost slots. But if you have a hard launch date, leave a safety margin instead of building the plan on an uncertain organic contribution.

Plan the level target and channel perception together

Boosts are part of a larger plan that can improve how a channel is perceived. Especially on channels receiving new visitors, the level is not the only factor: the profile image, description, pinned welcome content, post design and content rhythm in the first days all count. A high-level but disorganised channel does not deliver the trust effect you expect.

So keep the channel ready for the moment you reach the target. On a brand channel the profile and cover language should be clear, post formats consistent and guidance messages tidy. On a community channel, plan the question-and-answer flow, basic rules and moderation support. A sense of life comes not from online member presence alone but from genuine, regular communication.

Where needed, a boost plan can sit alongside channel design, planned real-user conversation or custom bot development. Each service should still have its own written scope: what is delivered, when it starts and which outcomes are not guaranteed.

What to watch if you expect fast results

Reaching a target level does not mean an instant jump across every visibility surface in Telegram. Search visibility is affected by content quality, channel name, user interest, engagement signals and Telegram's own systems. Similarly, boosts do not guarantee that members become more active.

That transparency is valuable for revenue-generating channels. A digital product channel can build a more professional first impression after boosting, but conversion also needs the right offer structure, content trust and audience. In news or investment communities, source credibility and moderation matter as much as publishing speed.

So “as many boosts as possible” is a weaker approach than “enough sustainable boosts for the target feature”. Determining the amount never requires sharing a password, session or verification code; the process runs on your channel link, current state and target level. The current need on your own screen is the starting point, and the right amount is the one that takes you to a feature you will use and an experience you can sustain.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a fixed number of boosts every channel needs?

No. The threshold is calculated from the subscriber count. Level 5 takes 13 boosts on a 1,000-subscriber channel but 53 on a 5,000-subscriber one, so you always need to calculate against your own audience size.

Where can I see my channel's current boost count?

Open your channel in Telegram, go to Channel Info and select the Boosts tab under statistics. That screen shows the current boost count, your level, the progress bar and how many boosts remain for the next level.

Do I need more boosts as my subscriber count grows?

Yes. The threshold rises with subscribers, so holding the same level takes more boosts once the channel grows. On fast-growing channels, leave a safety margin for that increase when you plan.

What happens if I buy too few boosts?

An amount below the threshold unlocks nothing and the channel stays one level lower. Finding the exact threshold with the calculator before ordering is faster and cheaper than placing a second order later.

Should I factor in organic boosts?

If your community has many Premium subscribers you may collect part of the gap organically over time. Organic contribution is unpredictable, though, so treat it as a bonus rather than the core plan for date-bound campaigns.
